SELECTION & SCORING CRITERIA

1. Selection Committee will be comprised of Hanford Baseball staff (excluding the head baseball coach) and/or administrative staff and Hanford Booster Club members. The committee will determine a chair.

2. The applicant shall submit a packet which contains:

I.          Complete the DKW Baseball Scholarship Application.

II.         A copy of your high school transcript.

III.        Two letters of recommendation

3. Applications will have identifying factors removed to aid in merit based scoring upon the following criteria.

I.          Citizenship and Character

II.         Community Involvement

III.        Scholastic Achievement

IV.       Athletics Participation

4. Committee members will read and evaluate all application packets before the begin the scoring process. Each criteria requirement shall be scored on an ascending scale and evaluated as follows.

I.          Citizenship and Character

The applicant’s essay shall be assigned a point value between 0-20 by each Selection Committee member. Scoring will be based on grammar, composition and demonstration of citizenship and character.

Letters of recommendation will be assigned a score from 1-5 by each Selection Committee member and averaged by the chair. Scoring will be based on content and demonstration of citizenship and character.

II.        Community Involvement

The applicants will be given points based upon participation in non-sports related leadership and volunteerism. Points will be awarded based upon level of involvement and commitment. The quality as well as quantity of activities will be used in determining a value

III.       Scholastic Achievement

The applicant's GPA will be multiplied by five by the Selection Committee chair and entered into the final tabulations.

IV. Athletics Participation

Applicants will receive points for each season of Hanford Athletic participation in all sports and for all years. Additional points will be added for team leadership roles and awards as well as postseason accolades and honors. Hanford Baseball team points will be doubled.

5. The chairman of the scholarship committee will average the selection committees scores in each area before tabulation. The participant with the highest aggregate score shall be deemed the winner. The name of the award winner shall be given to the Head Baseball Coach and Booster Club President and are to be kept confidential until announced.
